Liquidation Paid The Bills

Quitting a retail business isn't always an easy matter - nor is it necessarily unemotional. When a bona fide purchaser can't be found, retailers often turn to us, Professional Liquidation, Inc., to get them out. Retirement is a happy reason to quit, most other reasons, like bankruptcy and diminishing sales, are not so happy and can cause considerable apprehension.

One of our greatest rewards from implementing PLI's copyrighted liquidation system is the reaction of the storeowner as the liquidation sale produces results far in excess of what they had hoped for or expected.  Case in point:  a couple in rural Minnesota hired us to liquidate their sporting goods store.  They had a long history in the community, but times were changing. Their customer base was already shrinking and one of the major sporting goods chains was about to open in their vicinity and shrink it even further. Needless to say, they were a bit skeptical of our ability to help them as much as we told them we could.

On the morning of the first day of the liquidation, all was ready for the expected large influx of customers.  Just before the store opened, the wife was somewhat nervous. She sheepishly told us they were a little behind in their accounts payable and asked when we thought she could write checks.  When asked how far behind they were, she answered “about $25,000”.  We told her “go ahead, write the checks.  You can mail them today”.  Not understanding the full impact of what was said, she decided to wait and see.  That first day was predictably successful and produced approximately $93,000 in receipts.  About 4:00, three representatives from PLI happened to be near the cash register where she was trying to keep up with the steady stream of paying customers.  Over the tumult, she asked us in a loud voice. “Have I told you guys I love you?”

The liquidation continued to a very successful, early conclusion. Husband and Wife happily pursued other ventures and actually found more time to spend with the family and enjoy the outdoor activities for which Minnesota is famous. There is (good) life after liquidation.
